What are Dendrites?

The striking patterns you see—which often look like ferns, moss, or tree branches—are called dendrites. The word "dendrite" actually comes from the Greek word for "tree-like," which makes sense when you look at them! These delicate, branching inclusions aren't organic matter like actual plants, though. They're naturally formed by tiny amounts of manganese or iron oxides that seeped into the stone as it formed, crystallizing in these unique, beautiful patterns.

Notable Features of Madagascar Material

The Dendritic Agate coming out of Madagascar is especially popular because it often features a wonderful contrast. You usually get a translucent or semi-translucent base in milky white, gray, or sometimes even shades of orange or brown, which makes the dark, fern-like dendrites of manganese or iron oxide really pop. Every single piece is a visual stunner and completely one-of-a-kind.
