Red Hyalite Opal Specimen Mix from Ojuela Mine
We were thrilled to acquire a small lot of these Red Hyalite Opal Specimen Mix from Ojuela Mine, which have a fascinating combination of minerals.
In regular daylight, these pieces have a beautiful visual contrast. A rich, earthy red from Hematite inclusions coats and stains a matrix of crystalline Calcite and sparkling drusy Quartz. The interplay between the deep red and the bright white is aesthetic all on its own. Draped over parts of the surface, you'll find glassy, botryoidal formations of clear Hyalite Opal.
But the real magic happens when you turn out the lights.
When you hit these with a shortwave (254nm) UV flashlight, the Hyalite Opal explodes with a brilliant, electric green fluorescence. It is an absolutely incredible response—one of the brightest I've seen. Under a longwave (365nm) light, you'll still get a reaction, but it's a much softer, more subtle green glow. It's fascinating to see the different responses from the two wavelengths.
Each piece from this find is unique, with its own balance of minerals and character. They are just incredibly interesting specimens, offering a great look in the light and a spectacular show in the dark. These are a must-have for anyone who appreciates fluorescent minerals or just wants a truly unique piece for their collection.
